Polaris - a Star in a Sea of Dust
By Nerci Flückiger
Polaris is not a single star, but a multiple star system located about 430 light-years from Earth. Its primary star, Polaris Aa, is a yellow supergiant, shining more than 2,500 times brighter than the Sun. Its companions, Polaris Ab and Polaris B, orbit it in a slow, graceful dance — a celestial choreography hidden from the naked eye.
