Interacting Galaxies in Eridanus (NGC 1532/1531)

By BRUNO ROTA SARGI

NGC 1532 is a barred spiral galaxy located about 58 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus. It interacts gravitationally with the dwarf galaxy NGC 1531, causing visible distortions in its disk and triggering regions of star formation. Seen almost edge-on, it shows an elongated core and dark dust lanes along the galactic plane.
