IC4592 - Blue Horse Head
By Omar Cazzanti
About 436 light-years away, it is located in the constellation Scorpius, near the more famous nebular complex known as the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud. This is the Blue Horsehead Nebula (cataloged as IC4592), which gets its name from its resemblance to the profile of a horse's head. This nebular complex receives radiation from the nearby star "v Scorpi" (visible in the photo as the eye of the horse's head), which illuminates the nebular gases.
