Crescent Nebula - NGC 6888

By Nerci Flückiger

This is my first image taken with my C8 Edge HD, and I have to say – I’m absolutely thrilled with this telescope! 🤩 During my vacation in Italy, I took a few nights on a campsite to get familiar with the setup. Despite the full moon, I was able to collect almost 9 hours of exposure time over three nights, thanks to the Svbony SV220 dual-narrowband filter. The ZWO AM5 had no trouble tracking the scope smoothly – I didn’t have to discard a single frame due to elongated stars! 🤩 And my ASI 294MC Pro once again proved to be incredibly reliable. Image details: • 34 × 120s with the L-Pro filter for the stars • 12 × 300s + 143 × 180s with the SV220 filter for the nebula Equipment: - Celestron Edge HD 8 with 0.7x reducer @1480mm - ZWO AM5 on Berlebach Uni8 tripod with PE160 - ZWO Asiair Plus - ZWO OAG with Asi 220mm mini + uv/ir cut filter - ZWO Asi 294Mc Pro - Svbony Filter drawer with Sv220 - DIY 20ah Li-ion Battery Processed in PixInsight, final touch in Photoshop. The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus, about 5,000 light-years away from Earth. It was formed by powerful stellar winds from the massive star WR 136, which are colliding with previously ejected material. This interaction heats the gases, causing them to glow – especially hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. The nebula spans about 25 light-years and is constantly evolving due to the intense activity of its central star.
