Ngc 6888 "Crescent Nebula"

By Luigi La Bella

Clear evenings help us observe and photograph .... NGC 6888 (also known as the Crescent Nebula) is a diffuse nebula visible in the southern part of the constellation Cygnus. The most intense part of the nebula is located in the western part, and forms an extended arc more in declination than in right ascension; this characteristic has meant that the nebula was called crescent, since it has the "hump" to the west, like the Moon in its crescent phase. It is a typical bubble of stellar wind generated by a massive Wolf-Rayet star (HD 192163), which is located inside it; this star would also be responsible for the nebula, which would constitute the material of the outermost layers of the star expelled. To the left of the "Crescent Nebula" we can see the "Soap Bubble" nebula.
